He investigates the mechanistic links between these conditions, exploring how the extra copy of chromosome 21 in Down syndrome leads to Alzheimer's pathology and other health issues. His work aims to uncover why certain amyloid plaques cause Alzheimer's while others do not, and he is involved in developing potential treatments, including the repurposing of existing drugs to target Alzheimer's disease​.
